Memorials
Athos Xavier Aleros
Athos came to me as a rescue. I had another rotti rescue
at the time, Brutus, who had been crated and abandoned
causing him to flop like a seal as he had no muscle tone.
Athos was immediately his guardian angel. He was so gentle
with Brutus, teaching him to bark, chew a bone, wrestle
and play. Athos always submitted to Brutus when wrestling,
as if he knew his brother was special. Yet if any other
person or animal came in the yard, Athos was alpha, and
protected his brother. It was awe inspiring to watch this
special bond. We lost Brutus to cancer not long after
I had my daughter, yet Athos's nurturing and caring continued.
He learned to take a milk bone from my mouth, so slowly
and gently, that even the baby could give him a treat.
He would check the house before sleeping under her crib
at night, sit on the feet of whoever was holding "his
baby", and was her loyal familiar no matter where
she went. During my divorce many years ago he was my friend,
my protector, and the one to lick away my years. He taught
my mother not to fear his breed.
In Dec 2010 Athos was now 13 and
it was our turn to repay his good deeds. While he still
managed to get himself onto my daughters bed at times,
and tried to play with our other 2 resued Rotts...His
eyes were failing and his hips were no good in the cold
weather. He was incontinent on occasion. Yet, we continued
to walk at his pace, wash the sheets, to carry him down
the stairs to go to the bathroom when the snow comes,
and lay on the floor so he could lick our face without
jumping up.
In March 2011 Athos stopped eating.
When he did try and eat he would faint and fall over.
Blood tests came back ok... but an xray showed massive
tumors in his lungs, causing his esophagus to be pressed
into his spine. Though this was the cause of his misery,
the vet had said he could be given pain meds and a liquid
diet. We took him home and spent the week saying goodbye...
and then broke our own hearts by letting him go. Doped
up and on a liquid diet is no life for a Rotti. Athos
was able to go peacefully in my arms, outside, at home,
thanks to the kindness of our vet.
Athos will always be a special
part of our life. Although my heart still aches for
him, I know that he would be happy knowing that through
a donation maybe another Rotti an find his forever home.

A 'SPECIAL PLACE'
You have a special place Dear Lord
that I know you'll always keep
A special place reserved for dogs
when they quietly fall asleep
With large and airy kennels
and a yard for hiding bones
With maybe a little babbling creek
that chatters over stones.
With wide green fields and flowers
for those who never knew
about running freely under
Your sky of perfect blue.
Lord,I know You keep this Special Place
And so to you I Pray,
For one Special Rottweiler
Who quietly died today
She was full of strength & love
and so very, very wise.
The puppy look she once had
Had long since left her eyes.
She is dearly missed my Lord
She went to join her ancestors
To Your land that is Devine
So, speak to Thene softly please
And give her a warm hello.
She's a Special gift to you Dear Lord
From Tina and Keith, who loved her so.

Healing
I just wanted to let you know that I made it home. The
journey wasn't an easy one, but it didn't take too long.
Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh and new
I wish that you could close your eyes and that you could
see it too.
Please try not to be sad for me. Try to understand
God is taking care of me...I'm in the shelter of His hands.
Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain. Here
there is no crying and I'll never hurt again. Here it
is so peaceful when all the angels sing. I really have
to go for now... I've just got to try my wings.

Just this side of heaven is
a place called Rainbow
Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been
especially
close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow
Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our
special friends so they can run and play
together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine,
and
our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill
and old are
restored to health and vigor; those who were
hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of
days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for
one small thing; they each miss someone very
special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together,
but the day
comes when one suddenly stops and looks into
the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His
eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run
from the group, flying over the green grass, his
legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your
special friend finally meet, you cling together in
joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The
happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands
again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long
gone from your life but never absent from your
heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
