Frequently Asked Questions

Where is RRUFF located and what are the hours?
RRUFF does not maintain a shelter, all of our dogs are in volunteer foster homes. We are all volunteers and have full time jobs, families and pets of our own. If you want to meet some RRUFF dogs, you may do so at an upcoming event. If you are interested in adopting a dog, please see the section on adopting. If you are interested in volunteering or fostering, please see the section on volunteering.

Can I give RRUFF my dog?
RRUFF rescues Rottweiler dogs from shelters in the New England area. Dogs in shelters have no owners to rely on, they are at the mercy of the space available to them in crowded shelter facilities. RRUFF only takes on owner surrender cases where there are exigent circumstances. Please try and re-home your dog on your own (please see our detailed page with resources), unless you are in a situation that qualifies as extreme. If you feel that your situation involves exigent circumstances, you may contact us at (978) 429-4059 or with detailed information about your situation and your contact information.

Can I contact RRUFF about a dog that is abused and/or neglected?
No. RRUFF has no law enforcement authority to remove a dog from its owner's care. Please contact your local Animal Control Officer and report the situation. If Animal Control removes the dog from the premises, then the ACO may contact RRUFF about acquiring the dog from the Animal Control agency.

I don't live in your area, can I still adopt a dog from RRUFF?
No. Please find a Rottweiler Rescue group in your area. We provide coverage to a specific area because that is where our volunteers are located. If you are out of this area, we do not have the resources available to process your adoption application. In addition, your entire immediate family, including any dogs you own, must meet any RRUFF dog that you are interested in before you will be allowed to adopt the dog.
