NEW: Hello! My name is Hooch.
Foster Mom told me to tell people a little bit about myself.
I was found running down the street dragging a chain and
no one came to the shelter to find me. The people at the
shelter really took a shine to me. I had an unhealthy coat
so they pooled their money and bought me a jacket! They
felt really bad that no one would stop to consider adopting
me and I had been there for so long. So they got me neutered
in the hopes it would help find me a home. Still no one
came looking for a wonderful dog. So then they contacted
some rottie rescues and a really nice RRUFF volunteer came
out to see me. I passed her test and she said I had lots
of potential. Just two days before Christmas I was out of
the shelter and in a real home for the first time. What
a present for me!!! The people at the shelter sent me off
with treats and toys. They were very happy for me. Here
are some of the things foster mom feels a potential adopter
should know about me:
Hooch had never lived inside before(in my opinion). He is
still trying to walk on his tiptoes in the house. Kind of
funny and yet sad when he slides. He has been forgetting
sometimes that he is on a floor and then walks like a normal
dog and that makes me smile.
He was not house trained(peepee only). Within two days he
figured out you go outside and he has only had two marking
accidents since. I find that pretty darn impressive.
He had a pathetic and rough coat. Sparse everywhere. Some
places he was bald and some were scratchy wounds. His unhealthy
hair has been shedding. He is starting to grow a soft and
nice coat and his bald spots are sprouting hair and all
scratched areas are healing wonderfully. He still does some
itching but everyday it is less. I brush him from top to
bottom twice a week and he loves it.
He knows sit like a champ. We are just starting downs and
he does not want to do them. Patience and work will get
him there. Obedience is a must for Hooch. Once I can get
out to walk him more we will work on not pulling when on
leash too.
He is a great eater. No food aggression. He knows he is
to take treats gently. He loves his chews and marrow bones.
He crates very well.
He has a tail.
He has really blossomed in the few weeks he has been here.
His eyes are bright, he has settled wonderfully, he is a
busy watch dog-he barks at anyone who dares go by the house.
We think he is a wonderful boy with oodles of potential.
He has been great with my little children and was chewing
a bone in his crate while they were running and crawling
around him. Because we do not know his history children
5 and up with supervision would seem wise.
From what we can tell Hooch was only tied up outdoors. Considering
that his temperament that he has shown is stellar.
He has a huge blocky head and a wrinkly nose.
He is just sweet and fun and with guidance will make an
awesome pet. We have a female dog who he has been introduced
to and does fine with. She is very playful and has very
good dog skills. She also taunts Hooch who cannot keep up
with her and that drives him nuts. He is a lot of bark and
gnashing but seems to be just that. With proper introduction
we do not see why Hooch could not live with a female dog.
If a potential adopter had a male dog I would state my best
guess would be that it should be a male with phenomenal
temperament so that there would be no issues. No other dogs
in a home would also seem to be fine for Hooch. Small pets
and cats are unknown as there are none in his foster home.
So, there you have it. I am here and waiting for my forever
home. If you are interested in meeting me apply and come
say hi. I am in Massachusetts.
